📖 Overview

The Staff Selection Commission conducts the Combined Graduate Level Examination annually to recruit candidates for a wide spectrum of Group B and Group C posts across central government ministries, departments, constitutional bodies, statutory bodies, and tribunals. The CGL 2026 notification covers approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies spread across roles including Assistant Audit Officer, Assistant Section Officer in the Central Secretariat Service, Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector in CBIC, Sub-Inspector in CBI and NIA, Inspector Posts, Junior Statistical Officer, Statistical Investigator Grade-II, Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Postal Assistant, and several other administrative and financial roles. Posts span Pay Levels 4 through 8 under the 7th Central Pay Commission pay matrix. The Commission makes final allotment of posts on the basis of merit-cum-preference of candidates. All posts carry All India Service Liability, meaning selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India. The examination is conducted in two computer-based tiers, with Tier-I serving as a screening stage and Tier-II forming the basis for the final merit list. The Commission uses a normalization procedure for multi-shift examinations to ensure fairness across sessions. Candidates are selected on the basis of overall performance in Tier-II, and post preferences are collected online through a dedicated option form before the declaration of First Round of Tentative Allocation.
